Bechamel Kartoffeln

  • Instructions:

    1. Prepare the Potatoes: 1.1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). 1.2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. 1.3. Add the sliced potatoes and cook for about 5-7 minutes until they are just tender. They should not be fully cooked as they will continue cooking in the oven. 1.4. Drain the potatoes and set them aside.
    2. Make the Béchamel Sauce: 2.1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. 2.2. Add the flour and stir continuously for about 2 minutes to form a roux. The mixture should be smooth and start to turn a light golden color. 2.3. Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming. 2.4. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens. 2.5. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg.
    3. Assemble the Dish: 3.1. In a greased baking dish, layer the partially cooked potato slices. 3.2. Pour the Béchamel sauce evenly over the potatoes, ensuring all the slices are well coated. 3.3. Sprinkle the grated cheese on top.
    4. Bake: 4.1. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven. 4.2. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the sauce is bubbly.
    5. Serve: 5.1. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. 5.2. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.
